Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested on Wednesday that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) might be willing to meet him for a "fried Twinkie" to work out their differences at the Iowa State Fair instead of a so-called "beer summit."

Christie and Paul, who are both early frontrunners for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, traded jabs earlier this year after the New Jersey governor requested federal funds to help his state recover from super storm Sandy.

In an interview with WHO's Simon Conway on Wednesday, Paul criticized Christie for "embracing Obamacare" because the governor had accepted federal money to expand New Jersey's Medicaid program.

Conway proposed that both Christie and Paul come into his Iowa studio to talk over their differences.

"I've been trying to get him to go out for a beer with me anyway so maybe you can get that organized," Paul noted. "Or it there's a state fair, we can go for a fried Twinkie."

In July, Paul had also made a thinly veiled reference to Christie's weight, calling him "the king of bacon."
