Florida woman nearly succeeds in having 'unsavory' neighbors' home demolished

A northeast Florida woman was arrested after police said she tried – and partially succeeded – to have her neighbors’ home demolished because she didn’t like them.

Ana Maria Moreta Folch told a heavy equipment operator that she wanted to destroy a mobile home and septic tank she owned, police said, although she actually owned neither, reported the Florida Times-Union.

The 62-year-old St. Augustine resident had a key to the trailer and told the contractor that no one lived there, but the mobile home’s owner showed up during the demolition.

Maria Gottfried said she had owned the trailer since 2006 and never had any disputes with Folch, although she denied giving her a key.

The arrest report says Folch told police she thought her neighbors were unsavory and she suspected them of breaking into her car.

She told police she considered her actions, which caused about $25,000 in damage, a favor to her neighborhood.

Floch was charged with criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, and released Wednesday on $10,000 bond.
