UFC welterweight Joe Riggs will miss an upcoming fight after accidentally shooting himself.
Joe Riggs was reportedly cleaning a pistol Monday when the weapon accidentally fired, wounding his hand and upper thigh.
The injuries were not life-threatening, but UFC officials said the 31-year-old Riggs would miss his Sept. 13 UFC Fight Night event against Paolo Thiago in Brazil as a result.
UFC officials said Sean Spencer has "verbally agreed" to replace Riggs, who had recently re-signed with the mixed martial arts association and is on a six-fight win streak.
He has not fought in the UFC since 2006, but has fought for multiple mixed martial arts organizations since then.
