A York, Pennsylvania man is currently being held without bail in connection with the death of a 1-year-old girl whom police believe was given vodka by the man while he was highly intoxicated, according to Penn Live.
Andrew J. Becker, 33, told police he had had taken eight "chugs" from a bottle of vodka the evening that he took the sleeping baby, identified as Lilianna, to his room to sleep with him. According to Becker, he took the girl with him over the protests of his mother because she had slept on his chest during a previous visit, reminding him of his own daughter in Maryland.
When Becker's mother woke him up the next morning, the baby was unresponsive and had several abrasions and contusions that hadn't been there the evening before.
According to police, Liliana had a blood alcohol level of .04 percent at the time of her autopsy, with the alcohol level of her stomach contents listed at .24 percent.
When police were first called to the residence, Becker told police he had been "very irresponsible." According to police, Becker showed signs of injuries when they first interviewed him with Becker stating that he tried to hang himself when he learned that Liliana was dead.
The relationship between Becker and the baby was unclear, with Becker's mother calling herself the girl's grandmother even though they are not related.
According to court records, Becker has been charged with one count each for third-degree murder, and involuntary manslaughter -- both felonies -- as well as endangering the welfare of a child by a parent or guardian and tampering with or fabricating evidence.
Becker is currently being held in York County Prison.
