A Mississippi coroner urged residents to take law enforcement into their own hands and shoot burglars.
Scott Gregory, a morning drive-time radio host who was elected Winston County coroner in 2003, promoted an upcoming NRA handgun training class in a post on his personal Facebook page.
He warned readers they might “think less of” him and hoped they wouldn’t hold his comments against his employers.
"I say shoot the idiots and call the coroner!" Gregory said.
He insisted he wasn’t “encouraging anyone to go on a killing spree,” but the coroner said he thought gun violence might deter burglars and thieves.
“If more folks would make examples out of these fools that are breaking and entering or trying to act as bullies, then the amount of burglaries in the area will probably decline,” Gregory said. “I'd hate for any innocent people to get hurt but at the same time my stuff is my stuff, my hill is my hill.”
The 40-year-old Gregory, who hosts a morning show on WLSM-FM and has been a radio disc jockey for 20 years, said the response has been mostly positive to his social media post.
He previously worked as a fireman and as a funeral home worker.
