An off-duty probation officer died Monday after accidentally shooting himself while practicing his gun skills.
Thomas Zaldivar accidentally shot himself in the groin about 3 p.m. at the Bullet Hole gun range in San Antonio, police said.
The 53-year-old Zaldivar was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital, where he later died.
Authorities said Zaldivar had worked with the Bexar County adult probation department for more than 20 years.
The shooting remains under investigation.
