Mom tells Fox: Little girl not scared of Ted Cruz saying 'world is on fire' because he will 'save' us

The mother of a 3-year-old girl insisted to Fox News on Tuesday that her daughter had not been scared when Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told her that "your world is on fire" because he was the "hero" who could save her.

At a speech in New Hampshire on Sunday, Cruz had warned a crowd of supporters that "the whole world is on fire" because of President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Tampa Bay Times political editor Adam Smith reported that Cruz had "scared a little girl," who interrupted his speech when she asked, "The world is on fire?"

“Yes! Your world is on fire!” Cruz replied, adding, "Your mommy is here and everyone is here to make sure that the world you grow up in is even better."

On Tuesday, Fox News Steve Doocy suggested to Michelle Trant, the 3-year-old girl's mother, that "mainstream media outlets" were trying to make conservatives "look like crazy people."

Trant said that the "reality" was that her daughter had not been scared or startled by Cruz's comment at all.

"She looked at him as a firefighter or a hero to a 3-year-old girl," Trant explained. "She looked at him as he was a hero, that he was going to put the world that was burning out, he was going to be the firefighter."

"She looked at him like he was going to save her."

"Michelle, you know it works," Doocy opined. "There are a number of mainstream media outlets who try to make people on the political right look like crazy people."
