A Florida man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery this week after he was accused of beating two disabled people with his bare hands, and with something he called a "Stupid Stick."
Bay News 9 reported that police were notified on Tuesday that 52-year-old Phillip Dale Simons had been abusing a disabled woman and a severely disabled 15 year old.
The woman said that Simons would often go into a rage and beat her and the 15 year old on the legs, torso and head with the "Stupid Stick" for no apparent reason. Before he went to work, he would threaten to kill them if they contacted law enforcement, she said.
After the woman said she was going to report Simons to the police, he reportedly stuck a shotgun in her mouth on May 16. A police report indicated that Simons said that he would force the 15 year old another minor watch the woman die if she reported the beatings.
On Tuesday, officers were waiting at Simons' home when he returned from work. A search of his home recovered "eight long guns, five handguns, ammunition, reloading equipment, holsters and boot knives," according to Bay News 9. Investigators also found the "Stupid Stick."
Simons was charged with Aggravated Abuse/Battery of a Disabled Adult, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, 12 counts of Possession of a Firearm By A Convicted Felon, three counts of Possession of Ammunition by Convicted Felon, Aggravated Assault with Firearm, Child Abuse Without Great Bodily Harm and DV/Aggravated Assault With Deadly Weapon.
He was being held at the Polk County Jail. An initial court appearance was scheduled for Thursday.
