Showing that he sometimes is made aware that he has gone too far, 2016 GOP presidential contender Donald Trump deleted an offensive tweet aimed at rival Jeb Bush's wife who was born in Mexico.

On July 4th, Trump retweeted a Twitter comment reading: "@RobHeilbron: @realDonaldTRump #JebBush has to like Mexican illegals because of his wife."

The tweet stayed up for 24 hours before Trump deleted it.

Bush's wife, Columba, was born in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1979.

Heilbron is a prolific Twitter user who appears to have an affinity for the brash American businessman and Trump's retweet would seem to be an indication that he concurs with Heilbron's sentiment.

Trump's campaign has been mired in controversy from the start when he accused all undocumented Mexicans in the U.S. of being "rapists."
