Former Vice President Al Gore blasted Republicans on Tuesday for continuing to deny climate change, as he and MSNBC host Chris Hayes noted that American conservatives are unique in doing so.

"We're the only country in the world where one of the major political parties denies the reality of science," Gore said. "It puts our country in a difficult situation."

Hayes mentioned that, according to New York magazine, the GOP is the only major conservative party among democratic countries taking such a stance.

"You could imagine on health care people say, 'The market should handle this,'" Hayes said. "But there's no one saying, 'Well, no one gets sick.' It just doesn't happen."

Gore did point out that, out of the current Republican presidential candidates, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) did make "appropriate noise" on the issue. Earlier this year, Graham said he would address it "in a business-friendly way" should he be elected. However, he is currently lagging in the field.

"Those who are in the top tier, if you will, are all denying the science and are seemingly afraid to break ranks with the large carbon polluters," the former Democratic presidential candidate said. "It's astonishing on one level and sad for our country, because this is the biggest challenge that we face."
