A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and award-winning author questioned whether America truly is the "home of the brave" after lawmakers voted to suspend resettlement of Syrian refugees.
Phil Klay served as a Marine in combat during the 2007 and 2008 troop surge in Iraq, and he won the National Book Award for fiction in 2014 after writing an account based on his experience, called "Redeployment."
He reacted in a series of tweets to the U.S. House of Representatives passing the Republican-backed bill to halt an Obama administration program to help about 10,000 Syrians seek refuge from their nation's civil war.
