Stephen Colbert uncovers the surprising truth about Trump’s teleprompter

After years of mocking and criticizing President Obama's use of a teleprompter, republicans are giving their presumptive nominee a pass for using his. Donald Trump was using a teleprompter and while Stephen Colbert insists that it isn't news — he does think it's pretty hilarious.

"A teleprompter! This from a guy who's gotten this far by shouting whatever comes into his head," Colbert mocked. "Trump using a teleprompter is like The Flash using an Uber, or Aquaman taking the ferry or Bernie Sanders using a comb."

Colbert revealed that Trump has actually been using his own teleprompter this whole time, but his is a modified version called a "yell-a-prompter." The "Late Show" obtained exclusive footage of the device during a few of Donald Trump's speeches. For example, Trump's whole "bing, bing, bing" comment was completely scripted:


When Trump told his audience if they "see someone getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of 'em, would you?" his teleprompter had very simple instructions:


That time Trump said "when Mexico sends its people, they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists" his teleprompter actually told him:
