CNN viewers revolt over ‘breaking news’ on Angelina Jolie instead of black man shot by police

CNN.com headline reports Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt filed for divorce (screen grab)

Users on Twitter blasted CNN on Tuesday after the network sent out news alerts and gave prominent coverage to the marriage problems of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt instead of the death of Terrence Crutcher.

Dash cam video released on Monday showed Crutcher with his hands in the air moments before he was shot and killed by Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby. The Tulsa police chief confirmed that Crutcher’s vehicle had broken down and that he was unarmed when he was shot.

But readers could have easily missed the link to the Crutcher story buried on CNN.com because the site instead made its feature story about Jolie’s move to divorce Pitt.

“It’s over,” the CNN.com page announced in large type.

On Twitter, many readers complained that they had received news alerts about the Hollywood marriage instead of notifications about police killing an unarmed black man.

"We were hopeful with Trump’s win that he might change, that the weight and responsibility of the Oval Office might mold a more respectful and presidential man. We have watched with the rest of the world as the mantle of the presidency has done very little to change Trump while the country and world have changed significantly."

Josh Holmes currently serves as a top adviser to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). While much of the GOP's fate is on the chopping block this election cycle with closer races than anticipated and little help from the president himself, Holmes told Politico he thinks "you could have a whole bunch of scenarios play out on Election Day." The worst-case scenario for the GOP, he said, is "potentially catastrophic."

Ivanka Trump attempted to celebrate her wedding anniversary with Jared Kushner on Sunday afternoon with a tweet stating, "11 incredible years... with forever to go!
