A reporter for Vice was taken into custody by Houston police while waiting for press credentials to a speech GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was giving at the Omni Westside Hotel Saturday afternoon.

According to Vice, reporter Alex Thompson showed up at the event without press credentials, which the notoriously press-hostile Trump campaign had stated was "pending."

After Thompson entered the lobby of the Omni hotel to check on his credentials with a member of Trump's communications team, a man who identified himself as a hotel manager asked Thompson to leave with a warning he would be arrested for trespassing.

Less than two minutes after receiving the warning -- and while still waiting for the Trump staffer to return -- Houston police took Thompson into custody, handcuffed him and immediately escorted him outside.

According to Vice's editors, Thompson was never given an opportunity to explain why he was still in the lobby waiting for Trump staffers to return with an answer.
