For a few minutes the hosts of CNN's post debate coverage maintained a calm demeanor describing Donald Trump's performance during the first twenty minutes of the first debate as well done.
On the second pass through the commentators, CNN host Jake Tapper suddenly became what could be called excitable as if he couldn't believe what he had just seen, noting that Hillary Clinton successfully baited her rival.
"It was really was unbelievable," he began. "John [King] and I were sitting here talking about it. She would say something, just to dangle out like a piece of meat in front of a rabid wolf, and he would go for it every single time -- completely off message."
"He listed every single time --" he continued before appearing to search for a word. "Even times he didn't argue against going to war with Iraq! He did a Neil Cavuto interview, then he did this, then he did that. Then an article in two thousand -- why are you doing this?"
After co-host King agreed that Trump had lied, Tapper jumped on Trump again.
"But no contrary facts, not one!" the stunned Tapper exclaimed.
