ABC host George Stephanopoulos took a shot at his own network on Friday morning for preventing anchors and guests from directly quoting President Donald Trump's comments about immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African nations, calling them are “people from sh*thole countries."
Speaking with ABC analyst Matthew Dowd, the Good Morning America host accused the network of "sugarcoating" Trump's racist remark.
“We’re not reporting the word right now, I think that’s probably a mistake,” Stephanopoulos said. “I don’t think it’s right to censor the president or to sugarcoat the racist sentiment revealed by how he used that word in the meeting.”
“This has alarmed so many overseas right now and here in the United States,” the host continued. “You’re seeing the kind of reaction we saw to the Charlottesville comments by the president.”
On CNN, anchors and guests have been freely using the word as well as displaying it onscreen.
