Kellyanne Conway: ‘Otherwise responsible’ Dems are threatening shutdown to appease Bernie bros
Kellyanne Conway (Fox News)

Kellyanne Conway told Fox News that Democratic senators were willing to shut down the federal government to please their "left-wing base."

"Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy pointed out that a great majority of Americans wanted Congress to keep Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals so Dreamers could stay in the U.S., but he asked the White House adviser whether the issue was worth sinking an agreement to fund the government.

"It really is regrettable that the democrats are willing to shut down the government, which means not just saying no to President Trump, but saying no to our military, saying no to longer term extension of the children's health programs, saying no to federal workers getting their paychecks," Conway said. "Look at the paycheck president just yesterday in Pennsylvania, bringing (mechanic Ken Wilson) onto the stage and talking about the raises, the bonuses millions of americans now are literally receiving."

Conway said the president had voiced his clear support for fixing DACA, but she said Democrats insisted on tying the bill to a continuing resolution to appease the left-wing base energized by the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign.

"He is the great dealmaker and negotiator, but I find it really regrettable that for petty partisan political reasons and also as an audition for 2020, playing to the left-wing base you have otherwise responsible members of the Senate being willing to shut down the government for this reason," Conway said. "It truly is regrettable."
