WATCH: Combative Trump defender stuns CNN’s Cuomo by saying Lindsey Graham doesn’t represent the GOP
Former aide to Present Donald Trump stunned CNN’s Chris Cuomo is a contentious interview Friday morning saying longtime GOP Senator Lindsey Graham (SC) doesn’t represent his own party despite often being the person sent out to deliver the party’s message.
Ex-Trump official Michael Caputo defended Trump’s mostly hands-off governing style when it has come to the looming government shut-down and took offense that Graham has criticized Trump for his lack of leadership.
According to Caputo, it’s up to Republicans to “man up, stand up for what they believe in and force the Democrats to reject the continuing resolution and force a government shutdown, and then make them pay for it.”
After a combative back and forth over who is responsible for the possible shutdown and how government employees will be paid, Caputo blamed part of the impasse on the president’s “sh*thole” comments that he claims Democrats leaked in an effort to force a decision on DACA.
Cuomo noted that Sen. Graham verified about those comments, saying, “What about your boy, Lindsey?”
“He doesn’t represent the Republican Party?” Caputo shot back.
“What are you talking about, Michael? How can you say that?” a stunned Cuomo replied.
“Lindsey Graham is a legendary longtime critic of Donald Trump,” Caputo offered before adding, “They;re friendly about it –.”
“They went golfing,” Cuomo cut in.
“No doubt. And the president doesn’t have a problem going golfing with people he doesn’t agree with,” Caputo offered as Cuomo grimaced.
“But Lindsey Graham doesn’t represent the Republican Party, ” Caputo attempted again.
The CNN host then lectured Caputo over Trump’s comments, stating, “He expressed a preference for immigrants from Norway over basically anywhere that has brown people. That’s what he said, that’s what he believes. Tt’s consistent with like a half dozen other statements about immigrants. That’s what he is, Michael. ”
“That’s not true” Caputo claimed. “And you can’t stand –.”
“Of course it’s true,” Cuomo bluntly stated, as he cut Caputo off.
