Gun-loving Ohio Republican mocks Parkland teens: They'd 'rather be eating Doritos and playing video games'

An Ohio Republican mocked Parkland school shooting survivors during a pro-gun rally at the statehouse.

State Rep. Candice Keller (R-Middletown) addressed the crowd in Columbus earlier this month, and a video recording shows her complaining about the teen gun safety advocates, reported the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“A month ago, we weren’t really having this conversation, and all of a sudden a 15-year-old on television who would just as soon be eating Doritos and playing video games wants to tell me that my constitution needs to be changed. Really?" Keller said.

Keller, a Trump supporter who backs a proposed "stand your ground" law in Ohio, insisted she did not have to listen to teenagers calling for new gun safety laws after a shooting last month killed 17 students and teachers at their Florida high school.

"I was born with the right to carry," Keller told the crowd at the March 10 gun rally.

Keller insisted that carrying a gun made her feel safer.

"Nothing empowers women more than carrying, so firearms protect me against offenders," she said. "My husband is not always with me."

The Middletown Republican also complained that men were treated more unfairly than women.

“I don’t think there is a war on women in this country -- that’s just me," Keller said. "I think there’s a war on men in this country."

Keller's remarks can be heard on the video at the 49:50 mark.
