A Virginia man was arrested on felony charges after shooting himself in the leg and blaming two black men.
Sheriff’s deputies were called late Saturday night to a motel in Spotsylvania County, where they found a 23-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his lower leg, reported The Free Lance-Star.
Eric Hunter Jones told deputies that two black men had approached him outside the Econo Lodge motel and shot him.
Detectives interviewed witnesses about the incident and determined that Jones, who is white, had actually shot himself and then made up a tale about black men.
A search of Jones’ motel room turned up a stolen handgun.
Jones was treated for his wound at a nearby hospital and then taken to jail, where he remains held without bond.
He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony receiving stolen property, reckless handling of a firearm and filing a false police report.
