A fire chief in New York is reportedly under investigation after using a racial slur to refer to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).

"Maxine gives the word n*gger a bad name," reads the comment left by East Syracuse Fire Chief Jim Brewster. The comment was shared on Twitter by Michael Benny, an anchor and managing editor at Syracuse's WTVH news station.

Benny also noted that the mayor of the village is investigating the "racist comment."

A perusal of the Facebook account that shares a photo with the user in the screenshot reveals little in the way of political bias, other than the most recent post — a share from right-wing journalist Sarah Slayer making fun of Colin Kaepernick, the former 49ers quarterback and popular target of President Donald Trump for his anthem protests.

"Share if this makes you Smile [sic]," the post reads.
