Spiro Agnew’s lawyer says Trump should quit before Mueller comes for Jared and Ivanka

President Donald Trump should resign before federal investigators target his family, according to a lawyer who represented former vice president Spiro Agnew.

Martin London, who represented Agnew when he resigned in the face of criminal charges, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that Trump should make the same decision for the good of the country -- or at least for the good of his family.

"It's only going to get worse," London said. "We already have everybody, you know -- the rats are leaving the ship. He's lost (Rick) Gates, (George) Papadopoulos, (Michael) Cohen, (Michael) Flynn, now (David) Pecker. He'll probably lose others from the Trump Organization."

Prosecutors have cut cooperation deals with all of those Trump associates but Cohen, who implicated the president in a campaign finance law violation, but London isn't sure how much special counsel Robert Mueller even needs their help.

"We don't know a quarter of what's in the pocket of the prosecutor," London said.

London has urged Trump to negotiate an end to the Mueller investigation by agreeing to resign as president -- and he said that may be the only way to keep his family from being prosecuted.

"If he has any interest at all in not only saving his skin, but the skin of his child, his children, his son-in-law, his grandchildren, his daughter -- this is a time when he's got to seriously think about that," London said. "Now, is he capable of that, of serious thinking? Frankly, I doubt it."

London said the president should consider his advice, because his own lawyer wasn't helping.

"He's going to be advised by people like clown (Rudy) Giuliani and people who don't know that truth is truth, then he's not going to get anywhere," he said. "The national interest is what drove the Agnew resignation."
