Here are 5 people who may have written the anonymous New York Times ‘resistance’ op-ed

- Commentary

An anonymous official in President Donald Trump’s White House acknowledged that the majority of the staff and appointees agree the president is not able to adequately uphold his oath of office.

“The root of the problem is the president’s amorality,” the source wrote in The New York Times Wednesday. “Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.”

The take is something that echoed Bob Woodward’s new book Fear, which cites multiple officials close to Trump giving negative critiques about their commander in chief.

The op-ed has already sent Washington and the punditocracy into a tizzy searching for who the staffer might be, and unfortunately for the president, there are several options.

1. Nikki Haley

The United Nations Ambassador has gone up against Trump and economic adviser Larry Kudlow over the last year. Haley appeared on “Meet the Press” where she used White House talking points about Russian sanctions. Little did she know Trump decided to change the talking points.

Kudlow said that Haley was confused. She responded with a Fox News interview clapping back, “I don’t get confused.”

Haley has consistently been the conservative unafraid of fighting for herself and her political career while working for Trump.

2. Mike Pence

Who benefits the most from Trump’s demise?

Michael D’Antonio’s new book about the vice president reported that Mike Pence believes God has anointed him to become president some day. It’s entirely possible that Pence finally feels ready to take over.

3. Kellyanne Conway

Conway’s been an adroit apologist on behalf of the president — without actually apologizing for anything. She’s defended every policy and managed to spin the boss’ insanity and absurdity like a top. Meanwhile, her husband has been the source of multiple attacks from the family.

Conspiracy theorists have wondered if George Conway is saying everything his wife wishes she could, but can’t.

4. James Mattis

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis has been frustrated with the president over the last year as Trump consistently ignores any military guidance from the general.

In June, there was a major change to Mattis’ role that not only left him out of the loop but basically shoved him to the side.

“They don’t really see eye to eye,” said one former senior White House official, who observed the relationship between the two men. So, it’s possible that Mattis has finally reached his limit.

5. Don McGahn

White House Counsel Don McGahn has tried to keep the president out of trouble, but it has caused the relationship between the two to deteriorate. Notably, McGahn worked to keep the president from bringing about another Saturday Night Massacre by firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

He’s been brave enough to stand up to Trump, but that doesn’t generally put one in the good graces of the president. McGahn had planned to leave the White House after the election, but Trump recently decided to give him a big shove.

The Times story does reference the source as a “he,” though there’s no real way of knowing if they used it as a place-holder pronoun. It could easily be anyone fearful for the safety and security of the country. Whoever the person is, it’s someone fearful that if they leave, Trump will be allowed to go wild — and unchecked.

Trump promoting himself as the ‘second coming of God’ is another sign of his lack of basic mental capacity: Yale psychiatrist

Published

on

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump retweeted an anti-Semitic super-fan who compared Trump to the "second coming of God." That was after he made comments Tuesday suggesting that Jews who vote for Democrats are traitorous to Israel. The comments come after a long summer of Trump accusing members of the Squad of being anti-Semitic and suggesting that the Clintons are responsible for disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's death in jail.

Raw Story spoke with Dr. Bandy X. Lee, a forensic psychiatrist and violence expert at Yale School of Medicine, about the president's fitness for office. Lee helped launch a public health approach to global violence prevention as a consultant to the World Health Organization and other United Nations bodies since 2002. She authored the textbook, “Violence: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Causes, Consequences, and Cures,” which shows how the dangerous psychology of individuals is connected to dangerous societies and cultures, including their politics and economics. She and several coauthors of the public-service book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President,” prepared a mental health analysis of the president using information in the Mueller report (dangerouscase.org).

Trump has now humiliated his own ambassador to Denmark twice in just one day

Published

President Donald Trump's statements about the Danish government over the past 24 hours have made things awkward for Carla Sands, the former soap opera actress and chiropractor whom the president appointed to be America's ambassador to Denmark.

On Tuesday, Sands sent out a tweet that hyped up the president's scheduled visit to Denmark -- only to have the president announce on Twitter that he was canceling the event just hours later because the country's prime minister would not entertain his pitch to sell Greenland to the United States.

GOP is still accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars from a megadonor caught in prostitution scandal

Published

on

In February, Republican megadoner John W. Childs was charged with soliciting prostitution at a Florida massage parlor.

Childs was charged in the same sting that implicated Robert Kraft, the outspoken owner of the Eagles.

Since the sting, Childs has continued to be a major funder to Republican groups and candidates, reports CNBC.

He's given a total of $330,000 to Republicans, according to FEC filings.

The primary recipients of his largesse have been the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
