Attorney Michael Avenatti on Sunday spoke with Raw Story in an exclusive interview following the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Avenatti represents Julie Swetnick, who was one of the multiple women to come forward with sworn accusations against Judge Kavanaugh. Avenatti previously represented the adult film star known as Stormy Daniels, successfully ending a "non-disclosure agreement" about allegations against President Donald Trump. Avenatti won, and Trump lawyer Michael Cohen was subsequently charged with federal crimes.
Even after Swetnick's allegations were disregarded by the majority of the United States Senate, Avenatti answered, "I don't know if I would counsel them differently."
He also lashed out at Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who confirmed Kavanaugh despite the allegations. He said the decision by Sen. Collins was "absolutely despicable" and "pathetic."
But Avenatti's criticism of the Senate was not limited to Republicans. He said it was "obscene for any Democrat to blame his client" for coming forward with allegations against the conservative jurist.
He offered hope for the Democratic Party, citing a base that was "far younger" than the members of the Senate caucus.
He concluded by lamenting Democrats who "bring nail clippers to a gun fight."
