'Murkowski is gone': Chris Wallace delivers bad news to Fox News viewers about Kavanaugh nomination

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace delivered some bad news to Republicans about Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The weekend anchor said the judge's nomination may be in trouble after Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) decided at the last possible moment Friday morning to vote against ending debate on confirmation.

"It seems to me that this nomination is still on a razor's edge because, as has been pointed out by some of my colleagues, it doesn't always follow -- I think Murkowski is gone," Wallace said. "I don't see how somebody votes no on ending debate and then votes yes on the nomination."

Murkowski told CNN a short time after Wallace's remarks that she would vote against confirmation, saying Kavanaugh was "not the right man for the court at this time."

"This really does come down to a couple of key votes," Wallace said. "For instance, let's say that (Sen. Susan) Collins were to announce today at 3 p.m. that she is going to vote no on the actual nomination tomorrow. Then you have (Sen. Joe) Manchin, still get to 50, yes, (Sen. Steve) Daines has to fly back from Montana, but that raises the question about Manchin. Everybody thought Manchin might well vote for Kavanaugh if his vote weren't needed, if he weren't the key vote to put it over the top. But if Collins votes no Manchin is the difference between success or failure here. If he votes no, then the nomination is gone. So seems to me this is still on a razor's edge."
