In a rare interview, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein contradicted Donald Trump's repeated insistence that the Russia investigation is a "scam witch hunt."

"I committed I would ensure the investigation was appropriate and independent and reached the right result, whatever it may be," Rosenstein told the Wall Street Journal. "I believe I have been faithful to that."

Trump doubled down on the "witch hunt" comments during a Tuesday morning tweetstorm that also included his now-infamous comment about Stormy Daniels having a "horseface."

In the tweet, the president expressed exaggerated incredulity over the continued employment of top Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, who he called "a Pawn in this whole SCAM (WITCH HUNT) [sic]."

In his interview with the Journal, Rosenstein said he was "pleased the president has been supportive" of his efforts to pursue and prosecute Russians' electoral meddling.
