Appearing on CNN's State of the Union, Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) took her Republican colleague Susan Collins (R-ME) to task for her comments about the woman who accused now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, saying Collins insulted Dr. Christine Ford.

Speaking with host Dana Bash, Hirono was asked, "You heard your colleague, Susan Collins, say that she doesn't believe that Brett Kavanaugh assaulted Dr. Ford. What do you say to that?"

"She [Collins] said that she thinks that Dr. Ford thinks she was assaulted, which is insulting," Hirono replied. "I certainly believe Dr. Ford. Anyone watching her testimony would conclude she was being very truthful."

"One thing she recollects with 100 percent accuracy is that Judge Kavanaugh, Brett Kavanaugh assaulted her," Bash asked. "You think that Senator Collins' comments are insulting to Professor Ford?"

"To say that she thinks that Dr. Ford thinks that she was assaulted, what is that?" an incredulous Hirono skeptically asked. "Is she mistaken?"

"She [Collins], herself, said she spoke to so many survivors from her state and elsewhere," the Democrat continued. "All of us have been hearing stories and accounts from survivors going back many, many years where they kept all these painful, traumatic accounts to themselves. This is what happens with sexual assault survivors -- they do not come forward."
