Former NYC mayor and Donald Trump's current attorney Rudy Giuliani had strong words for the president's old lawyer Michael Cohen after news broke that he'd taken a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller.
"He’s [a] liar," Giuliani told the New York Daily News. "That son of a b*tch should have been disbarred months ago. He’s a disgrace to the profession. He’s a really bad guy. He’s a godd*mn liar."
In court filings, Cohen said the president knew about negotiations for the since-scrapped Trump Tower Moscow project up until June 2016. He also admitted that he lied to Congress about the length of that deal when he testified that negotiations had ended in January 2016.
While Trump suggested Cohen did not lie to Congress, Giuliani appeared to contradict him when he offered a justification for why the president's former "fixer" did so.
“It’s no surprise that Cohen lied to Congress,” Giuliani said in a statement. “He’s a proven liar who is doing everything he can to get out of a long-term prison sentence for serious crimes of bank and tax fraud that had nothing to do with the Trump Organization.”
He spoke about the Trump Tower Russia project in his interview with the Daily News.
"There was a proposal, but it never went beyond that," the lawyer said. "There was no equity, no money put up, no deal was made. Just because you are having a business proposal with Russia, it doesn’t mean you're colluding with Russia."
