In a pair of tweets posted Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump appeared to suggest the U.S. government should sponsor its own news network -- a notion some are calling "propaganda."
After complaining about CNN's "unfair" coverage and claiming that it has "very little competition" outside of the United States, the president declared that "something has to be done."
That "something," he wrote, includes "the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the World [sic] the way we really are, GREAT!"
Some noted that Voice of America, the government's overseas news network, already exists.
"It'd be like America's voice, broadcast around the world," The Daily Beast's Lachlan Markay tweeted. "Hey, we could even call it...Voice of America."
Others still noted that it sounds a lot like state-sponsored propaganda news.
"He wants 'us' to start 'our own' worldwide network to compete with CNN," actress Marsha Warfield tweeted. "Scared yet?"
