Michigan Democrat agrees with Trump: Strip GM's subsidies if they're not going to create US jobs

Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI) told CNN on Wednesday that she agreed with President Donald Trump's threat to cut GM's government subsidies after the company, rescued by American taxpayers in 2009, announced plant closings throughout the Midwest.

"I agree with the president," Dingell said. "I don't like what I'm hearing on the grapevine, which is that they will move production to another country. We need to understand what their product plans are, what they are benefitting from. They want things that the other companies don't want."

"This company has done something that nobody else has done for the past few years: Republicans and Democrats united," she continued. "This has to be the most thoroughly disliked company in Washington, D.C. right now."

Dingell added that she would "never support NAFTA 2.0", saying that she wholeheartedly supported taking GM's subsidies if they weren't creating jobs for American workers. She also slammed GM for mistreating their workers.

"I don't like the way General Motors handled this. The other companies are dealing with this but they care about the workers," she said. "I'm not sure they showed an ounce of support or caring for the working men and women that were impacted by these announcements this week."
