President Donald Trump called for his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to get a lengthy prison term after pleading guilty to lying to congressional investigators.
The longtime Trump Organization attorney admitted to lying about his work trying to secure a real estate deal in Moscow during the 2016 presidential campaign, and the president complained that Cohen was seeking a cooperation agreement to lighten his sentence.
"You mean he can do all of the TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things having to do with fraud, big loans, Taxis, etc., and not serve a long prison term?" Trump said. "He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free. He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence."
Trump was presumably commenting on $20 million in loans made by Fima Shusterman, father of Cohen’s wife Laura, to Chicago taxi mogul Yasya Shtayner.
The cab company owner and her husband Semyon Shtayner are mentioned in FBI warrants used to raid Cohen's home, office and hotel in April.
