Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said that her colleagues didn't care about the shutdown of the federal government except for when they were going through airport security, the Washington Post reported Saturday.
In a feature about how the GOP was reeling from fallout over the shutdown, Murkowski said that she knew the shutdown was going to be a disaster from the start.
“I came to the conclusion a long time ago that none of these are a good idea,” she said. “What I have heard from our conference is a greater number of voices that are saying, ‘Hey, this does not work so well. This is not a tool that we should be using.’”
And yet, the Post reports Murkowski told reporters that other Republicans “never really felt the urgency” to end the shutdown "except perhaps when they were going through airport security."
“It was stunning to me,” Murkowski said.
According to previous Washington Post reporting, some GOP senators did scream at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Vice President Mike Pence at a luncheon meeting about the shutdown.
