President Donald Trump spent New Year's Day on Twitter, where he praised Kim Jong Un commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, despite the North Korean dictator's broken promises.
"Kim Jong Un says North Korea will not make or test nuclear weapons, or give them to others," tweeted the president. "I also look forward to meeting with Chairman Kim."
Despite the president's exuberance and optimism, most experts agree that North Korea has not stopped its pursuit and development of nuclear weapons.
NBC News for example, reported in June 2018 that "North Korea has increased its production of fuel for nuclear weapons at multiple secret sites in recent months."
The Washington Post added that the regime "is considering ways to conceal the number of weapons it has."
On New Year's Eve, Bloomberg News reported that Kim threatened to walk away from talks if Trump didn't relax U.S. sanctions.
