The View mocks ‘shape-shifter’ Romney for changing his mind on Trump again: Everyone sees through it
Abby Huntsman (ABC)

"The View" co-host Abby Huntsman called out incoming Sen. Mitt Romney as a self-serving hypocrite for his attacks on President Donald Trump.

Romney published a Washington Post op-ed bashing the president for his low character, and "The View" panelists agreed the former Republican presidential nominee had changed his positions on many of his political views -- including Trump.

"My question is, Mitt, why did you accept the guy's endorsement when you were running for Senate if that's how you felt?" said host Whoopi Goldberg.

Co-host Sunny Hostin called Romney a "shape-shifter," and Huntsman agreed that he could not be trusted.

"My dad spoke to him a year ago, because he's in my home state of Utah," said Huntsman, whose father challenged Romney in the 2012 GOP primary, "and he said point blank to me, 'I'm running to be basically the anti-Trump, we're losing a lot of adults in the room.'"

"I chuckled for the past year every time I saw a Trump tweet or that he was endorsing him, no clue what's going on," she added. "Romney is going to be about Romney every single time. I would not be surprised if in a year he's thinking about running against Trump, mark my words."

Co-host Meghan McCain mocked Romney's niece, Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, who defended Trump against her uncle.

"That's Romney-on-Romney crime," McCain said. "You do not attack people you're related to, no matter what happens."

"My dad could have murdered somebody in cold blood, and I would have said it doesn't matter -- he didn't do it," McCain said. "That's not how I roll."

Huntsman was relieved that all of her co-panelists recognized Romney would say anything to further his political career.

"I'm just glad everyone actually sees through it," Huntsman said. "I've known him for years and years, and I've seen him play this playbook every single campaign."
