Cohen raid ‘opened a Pandora’s box of problems’ worse than Mueller: CNN reporter says the walls are closing in on Trump

CNN White House correspondent Abby Phillip traced the roots of the investigation into President Donald Trump's inaugural committee back to the raid on Michael Cohen's office, saying the FBI had opened a 'Pandora's box' of legal problems for the president.

"This inaugural committee investigation is one of those things that is part of the Pandora's box of that Michael Cohen raid when investigators went in there and grabbed all these documents," Phillip said. "It opened the door to a lot of potentially serious problems, perhaps even more serious problems for some of these people than even the Mueller probe."

Phillip predicted that the White House would have difficulty changing the narrative.

"They're implying this is sort of a witch hunt, in the same way that the Mueller probe is a witch hunt," she said. "Unlike the Mueller probe, the Southern District of New York is being led by someone who is appointed by President Trump, so they're going to have a really hard time making that political argument."

Phillip recalled the vast sums of money that had poured into the Inaugural Committee and said it had raised eyebrows at the time.

"A lot of people wondered then, where was all this money coming from and where was it going," she said. "We might be getting answers to all of that."
