Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is eating crow after he appeared to threaten former Donald Trump "fixer" Michael Cohen.
In a Wednesday tweet, after Cohen's second day of testimony, Gaetz said that he spoke to Cohen and apologized.
"I’ve personally apologized to @MichaelCohen212 4 referencing his private family in the public square," he tweeted. "Regardless of disagreements, family members should be off-limits from attacks from representatives, senators & presidents, including myself. Let’s leave the Cohen family alone."
“Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison…she’s about to learn a lot,” he tweeted earlier this week.
It wasn't long before the backlash began. Gaetz was called "disgusting" and Speaker Nancy Pelosi even asked for the Ethics Committee to look into the matter. It was also announced Wednesday that the Florida Bar Association is investigating whether the attempt at intimidation would be enough to remove him from the Bar.
