On Monday, presidential historian Douglas Brinkley slammed President Donald Trump for having little knowledge on Native American history after he tweeted insults about the trail of tears.
In response to Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) announcement that she is running for president, Trump tweeted, “See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!”
Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!# p #3_10 # ad skipped = true #

Trump has mocked Warren’s claim that she is part Native American by nicknaming her “Pocahontas.”
“Our whole country could use education history courses on the native history and particularly, how ugly and grim the trail of tears was, “Brinkley told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin.
“It was insensitive and when you have the word savage from his son, it leads to that impression. Demonizing Elizabeth Warren as ‘Pocahontas’ constantly. He is a president that doesn’t know anything about Native American history and is just trying get bar room laughs using his Twitter feed,” he said.
