Protester climbs on top of crane ahead of Trump’s speech in Florida

A protester climbed a crane at a construction site near the campus of Florida International University on Monday morning ahead of a speech by President Donald Trump.

According to local news outlet WSVN, the man was wearing a helmet, climbing gear and straps. He displayed a banner and American flag.

Police have asked construction workers to clear the area.

“I was setting up my station and they were telling everybody on the deck to get out and then next thing you know they came to the bottom telling everybody to get out the site,” one worker told WSVN. “We left all our tools and everything. We have no idea what the guy wants.”

Trump is expected to address the ongoing turmoil in Venezuela and express support for opposition leader Juan Guaidó during his speech.

The protester later surrendered to police.
