Appearing on PBS, a former speechwriter for President George. W. Bush commended Democrats for a far-reaching request for documents from President Donald Trump and his associates, saying there is a lot of territory that needs to be investigated.


Host Judy Woodruff noted that the House had asked for a wealth of information, including information on Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and wondered if they were reaching too far

According to Michael Gerson, who also writes a column for the Washington Post, not all.

"I think the breadth of these demands is equal to the breadth of slime that we're seeing," he responded. "I mean, we have seen it at every stage -- from campaign, to transition, to inaugural committee, to early White House."

"There are plenty of ethical problems to examine in this case," he added. "And this is a case where the Republican Party didn't do its duties when it came to oversight."
