Conservatives rip into each other in off-the-rails shoutfest over Trump's border veto: 'Don't even go there!'

A pair of conservative commentators — one critical of Donald Trump and one in his corner — sparred on CNN Saturday over the ongoing drama surrounding the president's national emergency declaration for his proposed border wall with Mexico.

In the aftermath of Trump's showy veto of Congress' block on the declaration, former GOP congressional aide Tara Setmayer and conservative radio host Ben Ferguson took to the airwaves to discuss.

Though both agreed that declaring a national emergency was a bad move, they predictably took opposing sides on whether there is a "crisis" at the US-Mexico border.

Setmayer called Trump's comments about vetoing the bill, which he called his "duty," were a form of "demagogue rhetoric."

"Are there problems, yes. Is there a national emergency? I guess he forgot about Pearl Harbor, 9/11," she added. "It is ridiculous that the president is using that to gin people up in fear."

As she was speaking, Ferguson repeatedly tried to interrupt her, saying her name over and over.

"It's not ginning people up," the pro-Trump conservative said.

"Yes it is, Ben, and you know it!" Setmayer shot back. "Fearmongering and demagoguery."

Ferguson claimed that the president's comments are neither "fearmongering" nor "demagoguery" because there are people "affected" by undocumented immigrants who are in favor of Trump's policies.

"Don't even go there!" the never-Trump Republican responded. "Don't insult me with that, Ben, because I've dealt with this for many years. I wasn't a radio host, I actually worked on Capitol Hill for many years."

"I worked on this issue for seven years," Setmayer added as Ferguson continued to talk over her. "Don't you dare patronize me!"
