A Fox Sports North announcer was reportedly pulled from the broadcast booth on Thursday after making a joke about lynching while covering a high school hockey match, reports KSTP.
According to the report, play-by-play announcer Doug McLeod made the comment as he called the Minnesota Boys’ State Hockey Tournament Class AA quarterfinals that can be heard in a six-second video clip posted to Twitter (seen below).
“All the White Bear fans get out the lynching ropes,” McLeod quipped before adding. “Just reporting.”
The comment led Tom Hauser, a political reporter for KSTP who worked the game as its studio host to apologize later during the broadcast, while McLeod has pulled from the booth and did appear for a scheduled appearance for a second match.
“We are aware of the insensitive remarks, and while this didn’t occur on our air, we have zero tolerance for these comments,” Fox Sports North said in a statement. “We are addressing the matter and have no further comment at this time.”
