House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Thursday said that Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) should be praised for his handling of the Russia investigation.

During a press conference at the Capitol building, McCarthy called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to remove Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee.

"Now, they have a chairman of the Intel Committee [who] lied to the American public for the last two years," McCarthy charged. "It's not me saying it, it's the Mueller report saying it."

"He doesn't apologize and the Speaker allows him to stay as chairman," he continued. "And to equate that in anyway with Congressman Devin Nunes is wrong."

According to McCarthy, former Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes, who had to recuse himself after he was accused of leaking to the White House, was "proven correct" by the Mueller investigation.

"We should praise him," McCarthy said of Nunes. "He stood up when others wanted to go after him for telling the truth. And then they allow somebody who openly lied to us up until even last month."
