CNN's Jeffrey Toobin on Monday slammed President Donald Trump for making incendiary attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) that have led to a surge of death threats against the congresswoman.

During a panel discussion about Trump's campaign to demonize Omar, Toobin said the president seems to relish attacking religious and ethnic minorities as a way to fire up his base of supporters.

"What do all the people that he's vilifying have in common?" Toobin asked rhetorically. "They are all people of color. You know, AOC, Omar, whether it is the basketball players or the football players, he's always after people of color, and that is not a coincidence."

Earlier in the panel, political analyst David Gregory similarly called out the president for posting a video linking Omar to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"This is beyond the pale, that she should be targeted with death threats because of something the president said is completely wrong," he said. "That is completely out of context and beyond the pale in terms of a political attack."
