Missouri's Republican-led Senate passed one of the nation's strictest abortion bans, to the shock and horror of many.

The GOP majority passed the bill, called Missouri Stands With The Unborn, by a 24-10 margin early Thursday morning, and would outlaw nearly all abortions at eight weeks of pregnancy.

The bill -- which like similar bans recently passed in Georgia, Alabama and Ohio will likely prompt a court challenge -- must still be approved by the Missouri House it goes to Republican Gov. Mike Parson, who supports the measure.

The legislation allows exceptions in cases of medical emergency but not for rape or incest.
