Psychiatrists send urgent warning to Congress about Trump’s deteriorating mental state as hearing begins

A petition signed by at least 350 mental health professionals will be delivered to the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday warning that President Donald Trump shows signs of mentally unraveling, according to The Independent.

In the statement, Yale Medical School Professor Dr. Bandy Lee, George Washington University Professor Dr. John Zinner and former CIA profiler Dr. Jerrold Post wrote: “We are speaking out at this time because we are convinced that, as the time of possible impeachment approaches, Donald Trump has the real potential to become ever more dangerous, a threat to the safety of our nation.”

According to the report, the three psychiatrists have volunteered to appear before the committee and attest to their belief that the president is going downhill mentally.

The statement goes on to note: “[F]ailing to monitor or to understand the psychological aspects [of impeachment on Mr Trump], or discounting them, could lead to catastrophic outcomes.”

“[W]e implore Congress to take these danger signs seriously and to constrain his destructive impulses. We and many others are available to give important relevant recommendations as well as to educate the public so that we can maximise our collective safety,” the psychiatrists explained.

After pointing out, the president “meets every criterion of lacking a rational decision-making capacity,” Dr. Lee elaborated by telling the Independent, “The one thing that we are trained to do is to distinguish between what is healthy and what is abnormal, and when the pattern of abnormality fits, then we recognise that it is pathology and not part of the wide variation of which healthy human beings are capable. What we recognise is a pattern of disease and that may look like another political ideology or another political style to the everyday person who is unfamiliar with pathology, but to us it is a very recognisable pattern.”

Lee went on to note that Trump’s descent into spouting conspiracy theories is a sign that, “His pathology is actually gaining ground more quickly than the ability of rational actors to bring up the facts.”

“They [the House Judiciary Committee] are having four constitutional scholars testify, but alongside the legal aspects, we must consider the psychological aspects. In fact, the psychological aspects are more basic because the legal process presumes a psychological health and equipment and capacity,” she added.

Rudy Giuliani mocked for comparing Trump’s obstruction of documents to George Washington

Published

On Thursday, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani took to Twitter to defend his client with a novel comparison: Trump's obstruction of document and witness production to Congress is basically the same as when George Washington signed the treaty that restored diplomatic relations with the British:

Democrats act like executive privilege was invented by @realDonaldTrump.

Either their ignorance or perversity ignores the historical reality that was created when George Washington refused to turn over any doc’s underlying the Jay Treaty...

Trump impeachment trial lawyers facing fresh scrutiny with new evidence of corruption involvement: report

Published

on

According to a report from Politico, two of Donald Trump's attorneys representing the president in his impeachment trial are risking possible damage to their own careers that could, at worst, put them in the company of disgraced former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who is currently under federal investigation.

Beginning, "They’ve been accused of orchestrating a criminal conspiracy. They’ve been dubbed ethically compromised. They’ve been labeled liars. They could even be called to testify in the impeachment case they were hired to combat. In the opening days of Donald Trump’s Senate trial, it has at times felt like the president’s lawyers are his co-defendants," the report notes that the attorneys, specifically Jay Sekulow and White House counsel Pat Cipollone, have embraced their roles defending Trump but at their own peril, given the president's history with lawyers doing his bidding.

‘Indiana deserves better’: GOP’s Mike Braun destroyed for tweeting out video of himself lying about impeachment

Published

on

Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) tweeted out a video clip of himself lying about impeachment evidence -- and was met with furious mockery.

The Indiana Republican told a reporter that he didn't think it was appropriate for a president to coerce a foreign country to investigate a political rival -- as witness testimony and other evidence shows President Trump did to Ukraine's president -- but Braun flatly denied that had occurred.

Braun posted a video clip of the exchange, and other Twitter users wondered why he would do that.

REPORTER: So you're saying that it's okay for a President to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival and withhold foreign aid to coerce him into doing so?
