Video captured on Sunday seems to show police attacking a black protester after he criticized their ability to keep people safe.
The video was posted on Twitter early Monday morning.
“What @kcpolice did today was UNFORGIVABLE and UNFORGETTABLE,” the caption reads.
In the video, a man who is black tells the police that they “overreact in the moment.”
“If you ain’t got the balls to protect the streets like you were paid to do, turn in your damn badge,” the protester can be heard shouting at a line of riot police.
“Prematurely shooting people, prematurely using excessive force, get your scary ass on somewhere,” the protester continues. At that point, no less than seven police in riot gear approach the protester, who is several yards away.
Video shows one officer grabbing the man with one hand while blasting him in the face with a can of pepper spray.
“What the f*ck!” another protester yells.
Officers quickly form a circle around the man and pull him away from the crowd.
As demonstrators throw water bottles at the police, they fire back with streams of pepper spray.
The man who was apprehended can be seen face down on the pavement. A swarm of officers loom over him.
“He has has a First Amendment right!” one activist shouts.
The Kansas City Star later reported that there were no arrests at the protest, but one demonstrator was “led away” by police.

‘All lives matter’: Church hangs ‘no trespassing’ sign above Black woman for sitting in the grass
Officials at a California church were accused this week of harassing a Black woman who was sitting in the grass on the property.
A Facebook post claimed that the incident occurred at St. Paul's First Lutheran Church in North Hollywood.
"My friend Alex was sitting under a tree in the shade when this happened," the post explained. "This is deeply disturbing and contrary to Lutheran values and basic human decency."
A video shared by Chris Macke shows a man, who is presumably a Church official, hanging a "no trespassing" sign on a tree above where the woman is sitting.

A woman who claimed to be a doctor was chastised for not wearing a mask at a Costco store.
Video of the incident was shared on Twitter on Tuesday.
In the video, a man encourages the woman to put on her mask, which she is holding in her hand. The woman's elderly mother also appears mask-free in the video.
"Call the police," the woman says in a mocking tone. "Shame me like an ass, go ahead."
"You can put it on right now, ma'am," the cameraman insists.
"I'll do that when I'm ready," she replies. "Do you understand science?"
"Science?" the man remarks. "Maybe better than you do. Apparently, I'm the one protecting other people by wearing a mask."
