President Donald Trump lashed out at his former communications director, Alyssa Farah Griffin, on Tuesday when a reporter asked about her support for peace in the Middle East.

Trump was asked about Griffin's promise to wear a MAGA hat on "The View" if the hostages are ultimately released. Trump asked to repeat the name, and then recalled, "Well, she used to work for me. So, she used to work here. Let me tell you about Alyssa."

Trump proceeded to talk about "the most beautiful letter" she gave him upon leaving the White House at the end of 2020. She then came out against the administration after the Jan. 6 attack, saying, "I stepped down because I saw where this was heading."

"I never thought [she] was very outstanding," Trump said. "I figured she would not make it. And she didn't have a big role here."

Griffin previously served as press secretary for then-Vice President Mike Pence for two years before moving to serve in the same role for the Department of Defense. She then took over the White House communications post.

"And then we had Jan. 6 and she left after that. Or before that," Trump fumbled. "But she gave me the most beautiful letters. And then months after she left, we weren't here, she sent another letter. Glowing letter. Beautiful letter. And then, she got hired by 'The View' and they gave her a couple of bucks, and she changed her view very quickly. I never thought she'd make it. In any way, you know what that means. Uh, but she's on 'The View.' It just shows what a fraud 'The View' is."

The show is the highest-rated daytime talk show. In September, it enjoyed the highest ratings it has had in five years, Variety reported.

He said that Griffin called him "the greatest president in her lifetime," but noted she's "not that old."

Trump never directly addressed her in support of his work for the return of the hostages. He asked if she had worn the MAGA hat, but was told she hadn't received it yet.
