An informal delegation from the United States is expected to arrive in Taiwan late Sunday, The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the de facto U.S. embassy to Taipei, said in a press release.
The announcement came just one day after Taiwan’s ruling party won its third term in power after its presidential candidate Lai Ching-te won the race with 40.2% of ballots.
The turnout on Saturday was near 72%.
"As we have done previously following a Taiwan presidential election, the US government has asked former senior officials to travel in their private capacity to Taiwan," AIT said in the statement.
