Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) on Wednesday took a shot at the Trump-backed Cyber Ninjas "audit" of Arizona's 2020 presidential election.
During a hearing on the new voting laws that Republican legislatures around the country have passed, Durbin pointed out that these laws don't seem to serve much of a purpose given that no significant fraud has been found regarding the 2020 presidential election.
"Supporters of the bill, and we've heard it this afternoon in the committee, claim you have to do it, it's the only way to stop voter fraud," he said. "So the Texas attorney general spent 22,000 hours looking for evidence of fraud. You'd think they really would have made the case. What they found was the following: Only 16 potential cases of fraud out of 17 million registered voters."
He then turned his attention to the Trump-backed "audit."
"You'll remember what happened in Arizona," he said. "$5.7 million spent on the Ninja Turtles, who were going through all of these ballots, the result was more votes for Biden, fewer votes for Trump. So this notion of voter fraud is a ruse, as far as I'm concerned... in this case, there is no basis for it."
