An Arizona man who describes himself as a lifelong fan of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) put the Republican Party on notice this week when it comes to its continued embrace of far-right conspiracy theorists such as failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.
In a letter to the Arizona Republic, Ret. United States Air Force Col. Leonard Kirschner lambasted Republicans who have trashed McCain's legacy and have demanded the party renounce the man whom it nominated for president in 2008.
In praising McCain as "honest, hardworking and fiercely independent," Kirschner expressed astonishment that associating with the late senator has become a political liability in Republican primaries.
He then turned his attention toward Lake, who infamously told McCain Republicans that she didn't want their support in her failed 2022 bid to become governor.

"When Kari Lake told the McCain Republicans to get out of the room, she lost my vote and the election," he wrote. "It was political malpractice... There are many McCain Republicans, and in 2022 they either left the vote for governor blank or voted for Katie Hobbs."
He finished off his letter by sarcastically praising Lake for her "brilliant political strategy."
